I Can't Live Without: Melanie Ayer

We caught up with the lovely Melanie Ayer to see what summer beauty gem she couldn't live without! You may have come across her as @skinnybmel on Instagram, or been to an event she was putting together for ilovecreatives, or just ran into her while walking her pup Tasha around LA's eastside. If you haven't met Mel before now, you're in luck, she's here to share one of the products she holds close to her heart!

Oh, Rouge: What's your current must have product and how did you find it?

Mel: Currently I’m addicted to La Tierra Sagrada Salt Spray. It’s an all natural line made in Los Angeles by Stefani Padilla who works at Lucas Salon in Echo Park. 

OR: So, what does it promise to do?

M: The bottle instructions say: Apply on wet or dry hair. Apply to roots to add volume. Apply to ends for a beachy texture.

La Tierra Sagrada means The Sacred Earth, and Stefani aims to create the most natural products that will be good for your hair. “My purpose is to share the wisdom of plant medicine and help to educate others about how these sacred ingredients can heal and transform the hair.” 

OH: How close does it stick to it's promise or does it do something else amazing instead?

M: It has been so hot and humid in L.A. this year that the thought of using a blow dryer has me cringing. La Tierra Sagrada Salt Spray has been my savior. After I wash my hair, I spray a little salt within the layers of my hair and tousle it just enough to let it air dry into a natural wave. I love the texture that my hair is left with!

OR: Where did you purchase it?

M: I purchased my bottle at Lucas Salon in Echo Park, but I’ve seen it stocked at Individual Medley in Atwater as well. The bottles are pretty big, so it’s lasting much longer than I had anticipated. I haven’t had to re-stock yet!

OR: Describe the smell in one word.

M: How about 3 words? sweet, woody, fresh 

OR: Cheater!  Just kidding, that sounds lovely.  If you could pick one favorite thing about this product, what would it be?

M: The smell is definitely up there!

OR: We're also a sucker for a great smell!  Do you use any other products with it that you feel add to how well it works?

M: I don’t! I vary my shampoo, so this salt spray is really the only constant in my hair routine.

OR: Any parting words for us?

M: The ingredients for the salt spray from the website! I love that each ingredient has a real purpose.

Sacred, alkalizing and mineral water - cleanses and nourishes the hair.

Rosemary - Adds shine and moisture.

Palo Santo - “Holy Wood” - the healing scent provides protection, uplifts the spirit and can help balance out scalp and skin irritations.

Ayahuasca Vine Sacred Plant Essence - Medicinal plant that opens, strengthens, and protects the hair.
